Total Cubase knucklehead

I have just bought Cubase 5, and have installed MAYA Audiotrak SoundCard.

I'm running Windows ME, operating system and have not been able to hear audio off the soundcard through Cubase.

I have done some previous recordings with cubase and have loaded them in to my system, and I can SEE them, but I can't hear them.

The most frustrating thing is that Windows Media Player and MP3's work fine off the soundcard, but nothing from Cubase.

I have had one breakthrough before finding this website which I hope will be my long sought saviour...I heard a digital click track while trying one of the 7898789 thousand attempts at getting this system right.
