Question Inserts

I have posed this on another area and received some helpful feedback to some probs but i need some confirmation here.

Basically can you use the inserts send and return on a mixer as alternative outputs, or returns for mixing manually rather than using software? I am told so but the outputs on my soundcard would need to return to the mixer for monitoring, apparently to avoid latency, why cannot then soundcard be sent straight to the amp for monitoring. I have Delta 1010 which as yet unused properly but has zero-latency accordingly?

Any suggestions?

This is possibly more of a recording question but involves my mixer hence...

As for inserts, let's see if this is useful. On my mixer, I can use each insert as a mixer out if the plug's inserted to the first click only. Then, for monitoring, the soundcard outs go to the mixer ins. I use the mixer for monitoring.

Useful?

Talking Useful indeed

Thanks this has cleared up that it is definately possible and does not alter anything about the way stuff is recorded. ONe thing though what if i ahve used up all my msoundcard outputs?

I assume i can use the dedicated outputs on the soundcard and route them back into the mixer in a paired stereo channel?

Cheers

I think he wants to rig it like this:

Insert send Ch 1 -> soundcard Input Ch1.
Soundcard Output Ch 1 -> insert return Ch 1.

same for Ch 2 ..etc.

Basically sending signal to the recorder and returning the recorders output all on one insert cable.
