Question EQ on Control room monitors?

Anybody read the write up in Electronic Musician about control room monitoring?
I was wondering how this would work...
I have a eq analyzer. I use a dual 31 band eq->amp->monitors...
To get a true representation from my monitors, could I use the pink noise generator from my analyzer, get the eq set where there are no peaks in the eq analyzer @ 50 db...
How would this work?
Any suggestions?

Not very well I'm afraid. It's a pretty bad idea to use an EQ on your monitors because of the the phase shift they induce. If you have monitoring problems, it's best to treat the room they're in and learn how they act in your listening enviorment. DON'T EQ!

Question Eq

Thanks Track Rat...
What I am trying to achieve is a flat response so what eq I have done on the tracks will come though in a true representation in the monitors...skip the eq...thanks again...

Track Rat, while I agree with you, I would also like to point out that some peoples rooms suck. The last resort is to use eq on your monitors to get an more accurate mix.

I read the article and enjoyed it. I'm sure that Electronic Musician's article is valid. I am in the process right now of treating my room this way only to see if there truly is a difference in my mixes. I'm sure that EM wasn't using the article to plug certain products that nobody would think of buying......(I bought a measurement mic after reading the article) -- I'm sure I needed it!!!!

Just pointing out a fact. The phase shift I refered to can alter what you're hearing out of the monitors as to what was actually recorded so in effect, your monitors that you're relying on to tell you the truth about what is soniclly going on will lie to you. You'll be wondering why your mixes don't translate to other playback systems. Hey, it's just my humble opinion, your milage may very. If it works for you, boogie on.

eq

The acoustical aspects of my control room aren't too bad...
I have to install corner wedges and a couple of bass traps.
My CR is long and narrow, and the 3x8 piece of glass don't help.
I already have some acoustical treatment on the walls.
EQing my monitors helped. After hearing the mix on several different systems. I was satisfied.
I have 2 bands in the waiting to record "their" hits. I will do my best so my peers will not be dissapointed. Ha ha ha

Thanks To all for your input.
Ya gotta love this place...
