Angry WTF????? NOW I've seen everything........

I guess it was only a matter of time, but I just saw the mother of all inane covers and videos....

I thought the Alan Jackson butchering David Lindley's "Mercury Blues" was bad enough, but NOW.... some banjo-playing, country & western-style country band actually did a cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in The Wall (pt. 2)".......

Un-fucking-beleivable!! That was the first time a video actually made me do a double-take!!!!! I honestly could not beleive what I was seeing (and hearing...)

It was godawful bad - worse than butchering..... seriously.....

Big fuckin' yikes........

Bruce

This covering/sampling thing is getting really out of hand. They are really butchering some songs.... I hate it!

Then I guess you guys haven't seen/heard of Hayseed/Dixie (aka AC/DC)...a "pickin' an' grinnin'" group that does nothing but AC/DC covers. Actually, they're pretty good players....just some wierd song interpretations. Ah....ya gotta appreciate the humor in some music now....eh??

Then there's Apocalyptica - a string section (Cello I think) that plays Metallica covers.

Anyone heard the Type-O-Negative remakes of some of the Black Sabbath songs and that chick song? Really cool covers, excellent stuff.

Riding on Lindley's success with that song, you mean!

I mean seriously, any major artist releasing a cover is riding the coat-tails of song's previous success.... if that country cover of Pink Floyd's tune had been the original, that song would definitely NOT have been anywhere close to a hit. The only reason to "cover it" is to capitalize on its previous success and get in on the cash grab.

That's what the rap samplers have been doing for years now. Find an old number one hit, sample the hook and start "producin".

Wonderful Tonight

I have a friend who just throws up every time he hears that country guy cover Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight"

But face it...Country music and Nashville would sell their mother to a whorehouse for success...in Nashville, they don't talk about how good your album was...they talk about how good your marketing plan was...

Nashville is worse then L.A. 110% business, and no artistry whatsoever....

In my opinion, the worst ever was Sheryl Crow covering Guns and Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine", it still gives me shivers just thinking about it

I did a search for it just for the heck of it. I wanted to hear this great cover. Looks like it's by "Luther Wright and the Wrongs." They're based out of Ontario, Canada.

Hey, Bruce, is this a marketing ploy for us to download a song that you worked on?

Ha!

No way... I'm a Pink Floyd fan!!! I could never shit on a song like that!

Ontario, eh? Doesn't say much for producer's judgement here........... it also explains why the LA music scene is not here in Ontario!!!

Big yikes.............

I've heard some dance/trance version of Pink Floyd Wish you were here. My heart stopped beatin' - I was too chocked to actually check the cover myself, but when I finally studdered " who did this to one of my favourites ??? " the answer was .... Pink Floyd
I still haven't recovered from the chock

I dunno.....Godhead's version of "eleanor rigby" really pissed me off. But that's just one song. I heard of a Bubba Sparxxx tribute band out of Chicago. (At least they were playing there). How can someone give tribute to a man that spells his names with 3 x's?

Another brick in the wall part 2 has been done numerous times though. Nothing new there. but it still pisses me off everytime I hear of a cover of it. I believe the Faculty soundtrack had a "heavier" version on there. But a country version. Yikes.

Peace and chicken grease,
Mike

Okay, since the country scene is now doing Pink Floyd. How about a heavy metal cover of "Your Cheatin' Heart?" Who wants to sign up to start tracking??

"Money" may sound good if the cousin lover does it right.

Axel Rose sings "stand by your man".
It could fly.

Heh, get Frank Zappa's "the best band you've never heard in your life" and listen to his covers of "Purple Haze", "Sunshine of your Love", and "Stairway to Heaven". You will either be rolling around in laughter or throwing your CD player out the window!

Are you referring to a lack of integrity? In the music business?
What? - someone covered my song and got a platinum crossover hit? Damn, my integrity won't allow me to colect on the royalties!
Coming soon....just in time for Christmas - "White Wedding" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir!
