Audiowerk 2 card(s)

Anybody have anything good or bad to say about the Emagic Audiowerk2 card? I just went to Guitar Center and they're on sale for 99 bucks!

It's supposed to be an 18 bit card (18 bit?). Anyway, I'd like to get 2 of them to have 4 inputs. Any reason I shouldn't?

the only downfall is that youll be limited by the 18 bit card in a 24 bit recording world...if that isnt an issue with you, its a damn fine card....of course if u ever get a preamp or converter that has S/PDIF outs, you should be able to record 24 bit thru the S/PDIF inputs.....

Cool. At this point in time, budget is a factor, so I can live with 18 bit (I guess it's actually 16 bit, but it's somehow an 18 bit equivelant ....whatever). In either case, thanks for the info. I think I'm gonna give it a try.

Ok, I ended up buying the card. It works, but it chokes. I've recorded and played back, and it sounds great, but the hard drive is spinning like a mad dog, and I can't record more than 4 tracks without it choking at 44.1khz!!! I even installed their package that came with the card, and it chokes there too. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

what are the specs of you computer:
CPU speed/type
hard drive speed and available space
RAM

also what software are you using?.....

Celeron 433, 192mb RAM, IBM 60gig HD (7200rpm). I'm using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, but I tried the Emagic Logic Audio package that came with the card, and it did the same thing. I guess I'm just baffled because I used to be able to get 32+ tracks with modest effects using CWPA9 and the cheap-o sound card that came with the computer, and now I'm struggling to get 4 with a much better card. It's not a 24 bit card, and I'm recording at 44.1khz, just like before.
