final mixdown setup
When using midi devices, what is the recommended setup for final mixdown? Are you guys converting your midi to audio, and doing the final mix in the computer or running everything through an external mixer, then to a mixdown deck?
Thanks... |

I have done both.
I use a Korg N364 for alot of parts. Once the song is complete I like to record all the audio into my MD 4-track then dump it all back into the puter via Wavelab. The reason I do this is it adds a bit of analog warmth in it since everything is digital. But if I don't feel like doing that I record each MIDI track back into Cakewalk as a audio track. I then can add whatever effects to the tracks seperatly. I really don't like using the MIDI, just not to my likeing. NTM you can add more effects to a WAV rather than Midi. The WAV is just easier to work with IMO. jontflesh

Ok...stupid question....since I've never done it this way... once you convert the midi to audio, how do you go about making a final stereo mix internal? I've only done it by running the soundcard outs to a mixer along with the midi devices, then to a dat. I'm trying to avoid the mixer here and stay digital.
thanks |

You can take the L/R outs on your keyboard or whatever and save them as 2 tracks in audio(don't forget to arm both of them). Then just pan them opposite of eachother. jontflesh

If I'm understanding your question correctly, (after you've got all your tracks as audio in CW), just click Tools, Mixdown Audio, Export to file. Then you've got a final, complete-with-everyhing .WAV (If I'm not understanding your question correctly, ignore me ...it's late.

![]() Well xfering it out of the puter and back seems to add a bit more hiss that is non-existant in the pure digital app's that I am using. I may just be a idiot too. If I had the cash for a nice Reel 2 Reel I would definatly splurge in it as that is what I would xfer from the puter and back. JMHO My music sucks anyway ![]() jontflesh
