How to create this type of fade in? Listen...

Hi--

I was wondering if anyone could help me out on how to create this fade in effect. It's a standard fade in, but there are volume "stutters?" or something like that. It sounds almost choppy.

Instead of futily trying to describe this in words...

http://jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu/~mav2/temp/sample.mp3

Have a listen. (It's very small, just about 23k.)

Any suggestions on how do recreate this?

Thanks.

Cool Effects

Are you after the vocals effect or are you trying get all of the different sound effects used on the synth and the drums too?

Assuming you're talking about the backup vocs, it almost sounds like just a regular plain ol' fade in ...but there is something there. I'm guessing it's an arpegiator (did I spell that rite?) on a very fast but subtle preset. An arpeggiator (maybe I spelled it rite that time) turns sound on and off in a pattern you choose. I can't think of an example, but it's a really cool effect, especially for pop or techno type stuff. AnalogX makes a great one, and it's free, believe it or not (www.analogx.com)

Actually it sounds like a tapping delay/ fade in.
Any luck with the arpegiator...It could be that...
(I guess you spelled it right...I spelled it the same way. I wanted to put to g's in it. But it didn't look right.)

Ok, i couldnt listen, made me get booted twice...
my 1st GUESS would be a tremelo set with the depth all the way up and the speed set to time with the song, that makes it cut in and out real fast, or stutter, like old tremelo guitar amps or new trem-o-verb heads by Mesa.
another way to accomplish this WITHOUT tremelo is by setting up a mute envelope on the track... flip the envelope on and off wherever you want the stutter at. Kinda slow, but precise...

Yeah, sorry I wasn't specific enough, but it is the background vocals.

Someone else suggested the tremolo idea to me as well. I have Hyperprism's Tremolo, but that doesn't seem to work that well. When I bump the rate up to a higher level it creates all kinds of weird harmonics.

Does anyone else know of a good tremolo (or tapping delay) plugin that's not too expensive (or that is and I could get a friend to buy for me? heehee...).

I'll take a look at that arpegiator.

Thanks.
