what the hell does it mean. It sounds great - but I have no idea what it's all about. I first heard it in a poison song and now I saw it as a sticker on the van in that blink 182 video.
even my biiiiiig expensive english dictionairy didn't know the answer .

please let me know!

The whole expression is "ass, gas, or grass..nobody rides for free".....it means if you expect to ride in the vehicle you will have to provide the owner of the vehicle with one of the three:

ass- sex
gas-fuel for the vehicle
grass-marajuana

It is in referece to "paying" for a ride...Ex.If you give someone a ride...Ass/Sex..Gass/give you gas money....Grass/Pay you for the ride in Marjuana....Ass , gas or grass Nobody rides for free!

gidge... I already thought your musical taste was quite close to mine because of bon jovi. and I really had to laugh quite a bit when I saw your statement in a "nirvana equipment" forum that went like: "what??! it took so much equipment to ruin rock music?".
and now you say you like poison... cool.

the poison lyrics are something like these: "I took a greyhound limousine / straight to grand center nyc / I was ass, gas or grass - livin fast / nobody rides for free" (valley of lost souls, flesh & blood)

When I set that "nobody rides for free" in relation to "ass, gas or grass" I already guessed it was something like a "price you have to pay" but I didn't ever think that it really belongs together.

so thank you guys for making me wiser

ps.: gidge, my songwriting style is QUITE influenced by poison (and that damn V - IV - I - V - progression) although it's old fashioned and outdated maybe. but I do what I like... I won't play no grunge and no new-metal, no no no.
