Sonar 1.3 Won't Load File

Anyone run across this one yet?

I installed the Sonar 1.3 patch. Then I opened an existing work file (.wrk). I made some changes to the file and resaved. Of course, now I have to save it as an .cwp file (the new work file format).

Everything is fine so far. Now I go to reopen the new file, and Sonar get to 18% loaded and then gives me a message, "Not a Cakewalk Format File". ????????????

OK, so I go back and start over again. This time I save the file as both a .cwp and a .cwb (the new bundle file format).

I try to open the new .cwp file - same thing. I try to open the new .cwb file - it loads the mono audio data with no problem, stereo audio data no problem, then gets to 18% loading of the project and tells me "Not a Cakewalk Format File".

This only seems to be happening with this one project. I've saved others in the new format and can reopen them without any problem.

Any clues? Thanks.

I understand there is a problem with occasional files corrupting during the conversion process. Some people are keeping pre-1.3 files seperatly. somehow. Ask on the newsgroup.

Interesting.

I went on the Sonar newsgroup and found this is not an isolated problem. It appears that several people are having the same problem. Some apparently are even having the problem with new .cwp files that were created in Sonar 1.3.

I got an e-mail from CW Tech Support asking me to send them the .wrk file that exhibits the problem. I'll be sending it tonight and I'll keep you all posted regarding their answer.

In the meantime, I would be very wary of doing anything "critical" using the 1.3 update. All your work could end up locked in a file that you can't open.

Here's an update...

CW Tech Support advises that the problem is related to a bug in earlier versions of Sonar. Apparently if you did any punch-in or overwrite recordings on a track that had a track envelope, the punch-in would create a duplicate envelope.

Sonar 1.3 has new error-checking protocol that sees the duplicate envelope as an error and prevents the file from loading after it has been converted to the new (.cwp) format.

They claim they will have a patch available by the end of this week. The patch will delete the duplicate envelope upon loading of the file.
