Question New song... tell me what you think.

Hey all..

Check out the song "Over Myself" at

http://www.justwilliammusic.com/musi...myself_96k.mp3

Also check out
http://www.justwilliammusic.com/musi...oodbye_96k.mp3

and let me know what you think!

You'll have to excuse the grainy sound... they are only 96k MP3's.

Telefunken...

Thanks... I never would have compared us to Verve Pipe... but hey... that's cool

I don't know if you listened to both songs or not... one is me and one is our bass player singing.

all recorded at home.

Thanks for the listen.

mattman925...

My setup is like this:

Mackie 24x8 console
3 Blackface ADAT's with BRC
Event 20/20 and Yamaha NS-10M monitors powered by a Carver M400

Mics for instruments were various...

Mic for vocals was AT4033SM - direct to tape through a Presonus VXP

Various outboard gear...

I'll go into more detail if you'd like.

Thanks for the listen!

I like both songs. Very full, very exciting.

THe guitars sound raw. I think you should dip some in the midrange to make them sound more smooth.

On the second song, the vocal seemed rather low in the mix.

Hey, I like what you did with your vocals. They sound like they have some tape warmth. Is there any analog tape involved?

Even at 96k , its clear that these are well balanced mixes.

Yo, V.E. I just caught the first tune, but I'm really impressed with the sound overall. I like the natural ring of the snare and the vocals production is a lot like what I'm going after (though a totally different musical style). I'd really like to hear it at 128 to get a little more clarity...

Do you record other bands in your studio or are you just doing it for yourself right now? You could make some money in this town... Now if only there were a music scene, a place to play, people/media who supported local original music...

CyanJaguar..

Thanks... I'll have to try that with the guitars. Neither of the songs have gone through "mixing" yet... these are just scratch mixes I did to see if we were anywhere close to a decent sound. I play guitar, and believe it or not, guitar is the one thing that I just can't get a sound I like. They either sound too bright or too roomy.... go figure. There wasn't any anolog involved in the recording... vocals were the AT4033 -> Presonus VXP -> Stock blackface ADAT. Dumped it into the computer via analog to upload it to the site.

J..

I hear ya about "this town"... its amazingly hard to find decent gigs around here. Oh well. I haven't done any recording in my studio for anyone else... I'm not sure I'm 'pro' enough to do that. We haven't released 128k copies because of trying not to get full versions of the songs out on the internet before we finish the CD... you know... a marketing thing

Gargamel..

Thanks... the Foo Fighters were one of the "model" bands we looked at for sound... the other (which can be heard in some of our other songs) was "Splender"... excellent band if you haven't heard of them.

Thanks all for the listen!!

V.E.

Well... since I got a few comments on those two songs...

Let me submit this one to add to the bunch...

We'll see if this one throws a curve in the mix
