Acid Pro 3.0 & Sound Forge 5.0

I am going to be starting to record my music with my computer. I do not know much about recording with my computer but was told to get get ACID PRO 3.0 & SOUND FORGE 5.0. Any personal opinions about these 2? Do they work well together? Do I need both of them? If not which one first? Will I need other software to record, mixdown, burn to a cd?

Maybe these are not the programs you would advise buying because you think other programs are better. If so, what do you recommend?

Thanks for the help!

Both are great programs, I use them both and like them very much, but it really depends on what it is you are wanting to record.

I use both of these programs extensively and they work well together. Acid is basically a multitrack Remix tool. You actually paint audio onto each track and it converts it to the song's tempo with out changing the pitch. It also loops it and puts it on time with the other tracks. You can also add midi tracks and record audio (I record vocals right into this thing).

Sound forge is a stereo audio file editor, I use it in two ways. The first is to edit loops that I will use in Acid. When the Acid song is complete, I save the song as a stereo .wav file and use Sound Forge (with some choice dx plug ins) for mastering.

Both programs can burn CDs.

These programs are great. If you want to research others try:

Cakewalk Sonar
Steinberg Cubase
Emagic Logic Audio

Digidesign Pro Tools
Steinberg Nuendo
Sonic Foundry Vegas

Steinberg Wavelab
Syntrillium Software Cool Edit Pro

Hope this helps.

Depending on the types of music you'll be creating and the instruments you'll be implementing, you might want to pick up Sonic Foundry's Vegas Audio 2.0.

They should have a demo version at their site, plus it works seamlessly with Acid 3.0 and Sound Forge 5.0.

If you're use loops then its acid hands down. If you play you might want to look into one of the sequencer/audio programs like sonar or cubase.

I believe that a "Lite" version of Vegas comes on the Sound Forge 5.0 CD. Possibly on Acid too, but that I don't know.

I play guitar & use Acid for drums, bass, effects, etc. The project 1st starts in Acid w/ the drums, etc., I save that as a wave then insert/import that into Sonar where I lay down the guitar tracks. Acid lays over Sonar like a template. Quite a neat trick.

One thing to consider is the ability to save a project in a wave format. Acid 2.0 can do this but I haven't seen this in 3.0. If there's a way someone please speak up. If not 3.0 is totally useless to me.

Sound Forge is great for sampling anything, like a bit from your favorite song. Just sample/save & insert into Acid.

You should be able to save your ACID 3.0 tracks as WAV. files, unless you just have the demo version.

ACID 3.0 -> .wav?

File menu -> Render as...

Choose .wav in the dialog box, give it a name, and there you go!
