Question For The Pro's

Today I ordered my final microphone set for the drums.

I have stretched my budget as far as it will go, as you
can see by some of the mic choices.

So here is what I got & where I will be placing them;

CAD NDM 11 Bass drum one

CAD NDM 11 Bass drum two

SHURE SM57 Snare

CAD E200 HI-HAT

Audio Technica MB4000C Overhead 1

Audio Technica MB4000C Overhead 2

CAD NDM 10 Tom 1

CAD NDM 10 Tom 2

CAD NDM 10 Tom 3

CAD NDM 10 Tom 4

SHURE Sm58 Floor Tom

EV RE50 Ride

The question is on the ride/ floor tom micing.

The EV mic worked surprisingly well on the
ride/ floor tom at one time.

Should I use the setup I have listed ?

Should I let the OVERHEADS grab the Ride Cymbal instead ?

Should I get rid of the EV mic & bring the Shure up to grab
the Floor Tom & Ride ?

All Comments welcome.

Love,
Sean

Hey

I would take away the EV beacuse the overheads will pick up the cymbals fine. Leave the Sm58 on the floor tom. Put the EV a few feet away from the kit as a room mic. This will make it a more live sound.

Not sure what the RE50 is, but if its the RE20's big brother, then that mic BELONGS in a kickdrum. Not familiar with the RE50. I have used an RE20, and it makes a very nice kick mic.

ehhh sonusman, i meant it like ' that mike is very great' , not like 'stick it up your ass.'

Wow man, that must have hurt, this is one big mic. Hope you're feeling better in a couple of days.

mmm ... nice image, ed...
i don't know about the CAD mics ... especially if they've already been discontinued.
the RE50 is not the big brother of the RE20 ... it's an omni dynamic mic ... and I'm not sure if it would work well for cymbals. I think it's more suited to a live-vocal type thing.
I bet you will pick the ride up just fine with your overheads ... plus you'll have less phase problems to avoid.

Question

What kind of sound are you going for?
That seems like an awful lot of mics to me.
A CAD E200 for hihat? You're talking about using a Large Diaphragm condenser on a hihat? I use one as a room mic with pretty good results.
