hihats which way?

I just got a new pair of sabian b8pro medium hi hats, I know the heavier cymbal goes on the bottom and the lighter weight one with the writing on it goes on the top. My question is why do you have to put the heavier one on the bottom? I kind of like the sound of them with the heavier one on top, can I keep it this way?

Sure you can put the heavier one on top. A lot of drummers do that. A lot of people also mix the top & bottom hats from different manufacturers. If it gives you the sound you want, then go for it.

The only other thing to consider with the heavier weight on top, is if the spring can handle the weight OK. Do you get the type of action you need as you press the pedal? Does it rebound quick enough with the heavier top? If all that works fine, then use it that way.
