Sound Deadening Project

Hey, I've been thinking about a this project for a while now.

I wanted to build a box that's 4' wide by 4' tall. The depth is something I was going to ask you guys to advise me on. At the back of the box I was going to put insolation. Now, on the front of the box I planned to have a a difuser. The idea was to take 12 2X4's and cut them into 2", 4" and 6" sections, leaving me with blocks that are 2x4x2, 2x4x4 and 2x4x6. I was going to nail these to the front of the box in patterns that make the various depths be spread apart.

The room my band is practicing in, and I'm assuming will record in has no insolation. I'd say it's about 10' x 10' as welll. How will this device do in breaking up sound, and preventing reflection. What sort of frequencies do you think it would absorb?

hi

i recently finished a similar "box" with a minmal budget.
a friend of mine who works at the sae told me to treat each two pairs of walls in the same way. so i have the rear and the left wall treated with panel absorbers to absorb low frequencys and with the other ones i can experiment to absorb the higher ones.
acoustic foam is only clipped to the wall, so i can simply remove them if its too dull.
here are some pictures of it: http://www.suessmann.de/temp/pics.html

you also have to consider how reverbant the room should be for your purpose.

hope thats useful

Cool

well, yesterday relatives visited us and we tested if there's any sound leakage, while they were having dinner upstairs

i think i still have to work on it, because they gave us a smile when we went up.

damn, i never saw any girls like that when i was in munchen this past spring... dissappointing to say the least, although the swiss girls tended to cheer me up a bit. im glad to see youve accomplished that much on the recording studio despite the obvious distraction
