Take an acoustic guitar, put a tape in your cheeshy taperecorder (the ones with the radio and the built in mic, everyone has one) press record and start jamming. just play around with ideas and melodies. Now you can play the tape back and hear what the stuff sounds like and pick up the stuff that sounds good and forget the stuff that sucks. Now make another tape with good ideas, if you find a good idea from tyhe jam tape record it to a new tape so you won't forget it. Now you can start putting together songs of the ideas from the good ideas tape. This is what we used to do in my kitchen with a couple of other band members and a case of beer.

Have you tried looking at the main site's pages ?

You can maybe start here:

http://homerecording.com/newbies.html

Reading a lot is mandatory when beginning. Unfortunately, you can get out of it.

You can also use the search function, as most beginners' questions have been answered many times already.

Good luck!

Talking

Anna: [Did you know Anna spelled backwards is ANNA?]

If you ever study piano, one of the first things you learn is the C scale, up and down. Then, things get tougher with the Eb scale since it doesn't start with the thumb. But, after a while, you get most of the scales up and down.

Recording is like the folks just said, push in a button on something and record. Get to "know" someone with a studio and see if you can do some singing there, even if you have to sweep floors for studio time.

But, if you love music, you will get there.

Run out to a good newsstand and hunt down a copy of ComputerMusic magazine (www.computermusic.co.uk)

They have lots of beginner advice and a lovely CD every month with free software, trial demos and free samples (and even instructions.)

I just noticed a typo I made.

Regrettably, you can not get out of a whole lot of reading.

The glossary is great.

Anna,

A couple of questions to get a feel for where you are trying to "go" with your songs.............

1: Do you record your songs onto tape to keep a record of them?

2: If not, why not?

3: If so, what is the next step you hope to make?

4: Do you have a soundcard in your computer.........if so, what type?

Answer these and let's see where we go from there.

Peace.............ChrisO

okay to answer your questions,

1. I haven't recorded my songs onto tape YET because unfortunately, i cant sing, but i've learned to accept that b'cos i can write, as for the recording part i have a few friends who're in bands so i'm okay with collaborating with them to make this work.

2. See above..: )

3. THe next step i hope to make....I wish i knew. I'm so new to this, i dont know where to start. But i'm hoping to experiment, like getting the right 'sound', expanding my knowledge, working with others and getting the music heard.

thanks for your advice, if it's possible i'd be glad for more of your help through e-mail, anraged@hotmail.com , it'll be easier..later
