Anyone need Cheap acoustic foam? Check out http://www.foamorder.com

They have 2" (1 7/8) egg crate foam for $.66 per sq. ft. This is by far the cheapest i've ever seen. I'm sure there is a difference in quality between Auralex products and FoamOrder products. But, if you're working on a tight budget, this is the way to go.

Those of you interested in "soundbloc", a thin foam product typically installed under flooring and in walls to provide additional sound barrier, I can recommend home depot's version - 100 sq feet for a mere 14 bucks. its darn close to aurelex's soundbloc product (spelled the same, same color, almost the same thickness). The home depot version is marketed for use under pergo and other engineered hardwood flooring products.

As with any foam, please, make sure its fire resistant. A lot of foam is not fire resistant, and a musician touching it with a lit cigarette could result in a disaster for you and your equipment

I ordered a bunch of foam from foamorder.com 2 weeks ago, they told me 7-10 days. Last Mon. I called and the guy said it was there and they were shipping it. This last friday i called to ask where it was, he says he cant find the order, then he calls me back saturday am to tell me apparently they never placed the order with the mfgr! Bastards lied to me Monday about having it there, and now I'm way behind on lining my iso booth, plus, i gotta wait for the bank statement to see if they charged my card........these guys appear to be a pretty flakey outfit....proceed with caution.

Just saw a similar post on the Roland VS web site about foam for iso booths and trying to find cheaper alternatives to Sonix or Auralex.

Yes most foam rubber from "foams r us" is cheaper. There is a big reason it is cheaper - that is because it is not fire resistive. Typical foam rubber used for packing material or seat cushions etc will ignite easily, burn very rapidly and emit LARGE amounts of of hot toxic smoke.

I have 28 years in the Fire Department as my real job to attest to this.

You may ask why doesn't my seat cushion go up in flames when a cig is dropped into it. Part of the reason is it is coverd often by a semi flame reatrdent fabric but mainly because it is lying flat - not hung vertically on a wall or glued to a ceiling. The flame spread rate of this stuff in this configuration is amazing (and scary)

While from most fire code aspects you can do pretty much what you want in your own home - if you are a commercial entity or in an apartment with other dwellers you are potentially on the legal hook for damages resulting from an excessive fire involving this stuff. But that is for the leagal eagles to decipher. My concern is the safety of you folks out there.

If you can't afford fire retardant foam and insist on using other stuff at least "knock it down" after use so it is not standing up where it's flame spread is instantaneous.

Good foam will have a manufacturers UL Flame Spread rating - normally for wall and ceiling finishes it should have a Flame Spread Rating of 1 or 2 ( no greater)

Very good point Bloomingdale. I lost a home when a foam mattress ignited, it was just smoking and simmering so my son took it to the door and it exploded into flames with a black acrid smoke so he had to ditch it and run.
