Recording to Hardisk

I am thinking about purchasing a Behringer Eurorack MX3242X 16 track mixer. ( http://www.behringer.com ) Can I set this up to record to my hardisk or do I have to purchase a seperate piece of equipment to record to.

Well, your computer has to have a soundcard and software on it to accomplish the recording of whatever is coming into it...

I have a "SoundblasterLive!" sound card. What cables would I have to use and where do I plug them into on my soundcard. I also have "Soundforge" and a copy of "Acid Pro"

OK, this particular Behringer has, I believe, four pairs of outs. I think these are 1/4" balanced jacks. You need an adapter cable that has a single 1/8" stereo plug on one end and a pair of 1/4" mono plugs on the other end. Pick a bus and plug in the two 1/4 ends into the corresponding L/R pair. Plug the other end in the SB Live's 1/8" Line In jack. Route the signals that come into the mixer out to the bus you've connected to the SB.

You realize that with the SB Live you can only record two channels at once... depending on what you're trying to record, this can be very limiting. For example, if you're recording a band playing at once, you'll have to mix all the inputs down to two in order to record them at one time. So you can only isolate parts if you record them two at a time, with this card.

Ive recently done pretty much the same thing you are doing. I only record one track at once. i just bought the Behringer eurorack 2004. i went to radio shack and bought a L/R RCA to 1/8" stereo adaptor. on my mixer there is a Tape (Rec) out that is RCA. I plug the RCA end of the cord into there and than plug the 1/8" side of the adaptor into the "line in" on my soundcard. i mostly record local bands in the area just for demos and things like that. first the drums (using all 8 mic pre's). than the bass w/ a couple pre's and a line in on the mixer. a few mics on guitar and than the usual vocals. it works really good.

I use a lexicon core 2. not the greatest card out there but it's got 4 analog inputs @ once and you can get one for about $150.00 @ guitar center if you can find one(they've been discontinued).

Lexicons core two card is very conterversial and if you use AMD prosessors may be a problem. but When they work they do a good job.
