Keyboard as a midi controller?

I have a ROland A-Juno 1 with the midi connections. I want to use it also as a midi controller for some of my soft synths. I am running Fruity loops software and cant seem to make this work. Read the manual and am still stuck.

My computer is a HP P3 900mhz with the stock soundcard. (New one on the way, though). I have the midi cable coming out of the gameport, into the in/out of the Juno Synth.

After that, Im lost. Cant get the keyboard to sound notes. I dont really care about mapping the midi to different parameters like bend wheel, just care about the keyboard playing the notes at this point. Help is appreciated.

Here's a simple thing you might have already checked.

The "IN" cord has to be plugged into the "OUT" port on the the keyboard and the "OUT" cord has to be plugged into the "IN" port on the keyboard.
