Question Can I do it all here?

Cool Friends,
I'm a recent transplant from midi to digital audio. I used Cakewalk for midi but started having problems as I began using Digital Audio in that program. I have Cool Edit Pro and I'm liking it a lot. There's a BUNCH I have to learn and I want to know if this program is all the software I will need to make "tasty" CD's of my original music. I really want to spend my time producing rather than learning how to navigate other software programs. I finished my first complete song and it sounded great on my sons portable CD. Please tell me (if it's true) that I don't have to learn more programs!!!

Thumbs up Very Easy To Use

Hey

Yeh Cool Edit Pro is a very powerful and easy to use program. I use it for audio recordings of myself (solo) and my band. It appealed to me when I first saw it because I didn't have to learn much to use it , which meant I spent more time recording rather than clicking everywhere to find out what does what.

Anyway keep up the recording

Cheers
Tukkis

P.S.- We should share some of each others songs.

tukkis,

I've recorded instrumentals in CEP on a project that I'm working on. I'm planning to lay down some demos of other songs I've written with vocals very soon. Were you satisfied with the vocal effects in CEP or did you use an external effects processor.

Good Effects

Yeh George

Cool Edit Pro has some really good effects and not just for vocals.
They are very good for demos of solo players and also for bands. You can make your own or use one of the many presets.

Cheers

CEP is the only program you need to record, mix, and master your songs. Record and mix them in multitrack, then master them in the wav editor with the fx that comes with the program. CEP would be perfect if it weren't for the lack of realtime fx. Which will be implemented in the new version..to be released in about 5 years.

Cool

Brokenwindow,

I'm afraid I ca't completely agree with your comments that CEP is all you need. It's great software and I use it all the time, but it lacks in a few areas when it comes to mastering especially. The lack of real time effects as you mention is a major hurdle. But even more, the lack of multiband compression and reverb make it less suitable for mastering. Like you I am waiting for version 2.....and waiting.......and waiting. Eventually I bought both T-racks 24 and the newly release Ozone by Izotope for mastering. I like T-recks but I have just started using Ozone and it is looking brilliant. T-racks is stand-alone, but Ozone is a DirectX plugin that you can use form inside CEP! Excellent!

Keep on truckin'

Mark

Great Voice! preset

I like this Great Voice! preset on Cool Edit very much for my voice, although it's just a tad too powerful. I've lowered the gain by 2 and it's better. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
I've tried forever to understand compression and have gone with the preset.

It's true that "mastering" isn't really possible in Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition. But the simple fact is that mastering should be done by someone else...if you MUST have "mastering."

If you are recording for yourself and friends, CEP does a very good job. We recorded an entire album in CEP out of my little project studio and it's been reasonably successful on CD Baby (with no "mastering").

If you're learning recording, you're really a long way yet from worrying about mastering. CEP/AA is a deep program, and there are ample features to learn.

Have fun.

CEP/AA is very suitable for reasonable mastering. I did that a lot, and it worked out great for every one so far. It has good filters and good dither. And a sometimes helpful channelmixer and a hardlimiter. In the rare case I need something else, some free VST usually do what I need.

If you are in smashing out all the dynamics to get an excessive hot master which has nothing to do with HiFi, then CEP/AA is probably not for you. (See my signature!)

aye Deluxe,

so u sayin CEP/AA aint for mastering material..........

i mean honestly i probably have like 3-4 different Waves Bundles that were um....donated (lol, F*ck it), Izotope T-Racks, Antares package that includes everything from the Avox to the Mic Modeler, as well as some BBE stuff in there like the Vintage Warmer and some other BBE stuff i'm 4getting.....

so with all that stuff, u tellin me it's no need for me to have because AA ain't for mastering, or do you mean the default functions that are a part of AA isn't for mastering......

i let someone load up an unrelated session into my PC via AA, and he acted like he wanted to kidnap my PC once he saw the array of plug-ins and etc....

edit: either Deluxe can answer, f*ck it........
