What's a Cloud?

I think I understand that it is a horizontal platform suspended below the ceiling, but allowing traffic below; it has some sort of absorptive material, at least on the top, if not bottom and it does room magic, particularly where there are high ceiling.

My studio, currently under construction is 16' X 23' with 10 foot walls going up to a ceiling apex of 14 feet (yes cathedral ceiling). My builder is pushing the idea of a cloud in the room.

Is my understanding close?
How is it made?
How is it deployed?
What will it give me?

Thanks in Advance (pics coming!)

Re: What's a Cloud?

Clouds can be constructed many ways. I've seen hollow frames with absorbing materials attached and inside, as well as particle board with foam on the surface.

These are generally absorbing devices, however I saw one case where a panel with dispersing materials instead to solve a specific problem in that studio.

Cathedral ceilings are nice, and such a panel might help control reflections reaching the top of the space and going backwards.

Hope that helps,
