Awful drum sounds

I am using an old Boss DR550 DR. Rythym and a Boss Br8 8 track. The drums sound horrible when they are recorded DI so I am running them through my guitar amp, and it does sound a lot better than it did but still sounds like crap. Does anyone have any suggestions to make them sound better.

Anything is greatly appreciated.

Are the sounds from the Boss OK when played through headphones, etc. - meaning is only the recorded sound bad?

When you say the sound is horrible - what do you mean? Too thin, too boomy, is it all sounds or just certain drum sounds?

If you provide more specific info there is a better chance that you can get replys.

Try reducing the amount of decay on the individual sounds, it makes them sound a little more natural/realistic.
