Question That Fat Empty Sound

Well gang...you got me feeling pretty stupid here...I see I still have alot to learn. Let me give you a brief history of my learning.
Most all I have learned is from books and self experienced...no real studio time.
I am more familar with analog gear then digital but am now starting to use PC based recording. I have tried a number of programs...sound cards and different set up...still haven't dialed in what I want. I like tape...I like the headroom...the coloring it adds to the recording...but maitainence is high and is not nearly as flexable as digital. My sound is "ok" but it could be ALOT better.
I'm running a yamaha 2404 console, B-16 fostex 16 tk, yamaha effect (we won't talk about my monitors hehehe I see my next purchase )
Now to my question while you are still awake.
For sometime now I have been driving myself crazy trying to reproduce that (Fat Empty sound...is the only way I know to discribe it) Dominate Bass hot tracks without walking all over the other track like the Nashville "New Country" studios are mixing.
I'm sure it must be a combination compression...delay... and root track...but I just can get close.
I have tried invert phase on the bass...and it helped...but I am still falling way short.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Mark

Unhappy

Perhaps I can clarify my question.
If you listened to Reba MacIntire or Grath Brooks any of the heavy hitters...the Bass line is dominate without over powering the rest of the song. It has a crispness to it...yet fills the spectrum of the bass. The other intstruments act more as acsents to channel right or left. The bass almost adds to the stereo image. I'm sure I'm being about as clear as mud here...I wish I could explain what I hear better. I'm pretty sure they are short cycling the delay of the bass to one side...and EQing the fatness to the other side of the image...but when I try it....it just gets muddy and over powers the mix. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction...trial and error gets frustrating. I must be over looking something.

Also, if you would, post the titles of the songs that you are referring to from Reba and Garth..they could be very interesting references.....

Lightbulb

MISTERQCUE thank you for your suggestion but the samples are copyrighted material belonging NOT to me...if it was my music I would just direct listening to one of my mp3 pages.

elbenj...yes I think that is a good idea. Here are the songs I had selected for sampling. I have been thinking about it and perhaps it's more of a spacial sound....abienance. You really can hear it with headsets and switching from mono to stereo.
here's a couple of songs it is noticable in:

Faith Hill- If My Heart had Wings

Reba MacIntire - We're So Good Together

Celine Dion - Love Can Move Mountains

Celine Dion - Because You loved Me

I know it is a common mixing technique....I just can't seem to duplicate it.
