All purpose effect- your recommendations

Can anyone recommend a single device to give vocals a "fullness" or otherwise all around "great sound." Though I've been recording off and on for 10 plus years, I consider myself out of the loop and uninformed. I've had my low-cost reverbs for years, and am trying to re-start my recording thang.

I have a small BLUE MAX compressor. Thanks much.

Cool

Why 1 box.....RNC compressor for $175 and a multi-effects unit as the Lexicon mpx100 or 500...depends on how much $$$ you want to spend really.....

Why 1 box? I don't have "much" to spend, but more than that, I thought there might be some new "do-it-all" effect out there. Thanks

Cool

the problem will be that most compressors that come with "all in 1" units either suck or cost many $$$....I am the Lord of Cheapskates so I know where u are coming from...the Lexicon MPX100 is 199.99 and the RNC is 175.00....$375 together...how much did you want to spend and expect "greatsound"....

while were at it, if you want great sound, youll want a great mic and preamp......

now that the mudslinging is out the way, what is the mic and preamp you are using and how many $$$ do you want to spend?....

Tubedude, Tell me why you like the Voice Prism- when you have time. thanx.

Gidge,
My best microphone is the AudioTechnica 4033 and the ART Tube MP. Happy Friday... Oh ya, I can spend around $350. I'm assuming my Blue Max compressor is keeper???

Cool

Thats a damn good mic and pre....Id go for a RNC compressor @175.00 .....its the only compressor in that range worth its weight in salt.....

now where you go from there, in my opinion, depends on what you are recording to....if its PC based, Id go plugins for the rest (delay, chorus, etc)......

with the 4033, Art, and RNC you have a signal chain that is very very nice....

let me know what you are recording to (PC, ADAT???) and I can advise from there....

So anyway,
My recorder is (possibly) the weakest link. Fostex FD-8. What do you think? (take it easy on me, please)
