Whats your recording setup??

Spill your guts on Mixers, Programs, Effects, Guitars, Amps, Whatever you'd like. Please tell me what you do with em too (if its confusing). Or when you use them. =).

ALright here goes my broke loser setup....
( I use fruity loops for techno mixes i make )
GX212 crate amp, S470 Ibanez guitar with wizard 2 thin neck (not in sale anymore, very good =)), Some crappy bass of my friend's, a really crappy peace drum set, soon an Omnistudio, however now a Project Card, Cubase, N-Track, Cool Edit, Soundforge. I just do it all in Cubase pretty much recording from one SM57 mic, (is that the reason i suck?, i'm sure there are several reasons). I use headphones too (AHHHHH!)

Alright, your turn, and I wanna know what you do with it too!

Hmm..let's see

Fender Strat
Takamine Acoustic/Electric
Fender "Hot" Amp
Rogue Bass(cheapo-special)
some bass amp(REALLY cheap, forgot the brand)
Yamaha PSR-530 Keyboard
Old console piano

Now for the recording stuff
Mixer: Behringer MX2004A
Effects: Digitech multi-effects unit
Compressor: Art stereo compressor
all this goes into a PC(crappy sound card) that is a 433 Celeron with 96 MB RAM running N-Track and Cool Edit Pro mainly, on Win2K Pro.

Mics:
Shure SM-57(instruments)
Marshall MXL-2001P(vocals, acoustic)
Marshall MXL 603(instruments)
(3) Behringer XM8500 dynamics(live sound)

mic stands, cables, connectors, etc...

everything goes out of the PC to a Pioneer Reciever with Infinity Speakers that i'm using as "nearfield monitors".

I'll be getting the Digidesign Digi001 card in the next week or so, so things should change pretty drastically. This is about it for my meager setup tho...

I won't mention my recording gear because I find monitors and preamps and the like really boring at the moment.....they don't really make the music. It's like owning a fabulous motorcycle and talking about your toolbox.

I play rock with progressive, jazz fusion, and blues influences. I use;

Roland D-50
Korg 01/W
Oberheim Matrix 6
Gibson Les Paul-1976 goldtop
Hamer Echotone
Fender Jazz Bass
Taylor 414 acoustic guitar
Yamaha RX5 drum machine
Varius stompboxes- usually Boss CE5 Chorus Ensemble
and a Boss SD1 SuperOverdrive

I'm going to get another drum machine soon. Maybe a Boss D770 or 670. I haven't decided because they all suck so badly. Maybe I should buy a real drumkit or a set of V-drums.

The details of my gear are unimportant I think, but one thing is significant - I use channel strips straight to the soundcard instead of putting anything through the mixer. I never use the mixer for tracking. And since I mix in software, the only thing I'm using my mixer for these days is to monitor what I'm doing. I'm ever so slightly bitter about this. When I got into this gaff two years ago, everyone was saying 'you need a mixer'. You know, if I had a soundcard with a headphone plug, I could sell the mixer and buy something useful.

If you're a homer and you don't track more than one or two channels at a time, you don't need a mixer.

Yes the groove tubes 12ax7 has made the tube color more desireable, I replaced a phillips one inside that was going weak, I have also bought spares from mesa and sovtek. the blue tubes has a sovtek in it and sounds fine as it is. sometime the mesa will go in when it goes weak.

Of course, my gear runs on a different power requirement than yours Krystof and will be of no use to you. Sorry.
