Can JBL LSR28ps be used as nearfield? 25s instead?
I like these speakers a lot but heard them in an environement where they were situated about 5' apart from one another. I would be using them much closer, however, and am worried that they will not perform as well. Am I better off with the 25s?

If they're about 5' apart at about head-height, and you are sitting 5' from each of them (imagine a triangle of sides 5 to 6 feet, with a speaker on each of two of the corners, and your head on the third), then you have what is considered an ideal setup for near-field monitoring. So why would you want the speakers any closer than that?

Will -
I have some space limitations and though I really liked the 28s I thought the 25s might be better at closer range. Perhaps I should try to rearrange my space instead. Thanks for the reply. |

I just got a pair of LSR25's about a week ago... have had a lil time to play with em now.... I think they are great. I get a good bass response, and I have been able to crank em up pretty loud and still keep good tones through them. I haven't heard the LSR28's. I'm sure they are even better. But I'm in a small space, "bedroom" and the 25's are great for me. Also they are on sale for 480$ at Musicians Friend. Thats a great deal. Good luck.

IMO the 28's are more mid-field than near field...
5' and closer? get the 25's Queue
