Unhappy digi 001 interface w/logic et al

i've recently switched over from using an ancient sequencer on an old atari with deteriorating roland junos & a sequential circuits sampling machine from 1984. i'm now on a blue&white g3 and have a digi 001 that i was hoping would solve any input problems i may come across, being as all-in-one as it is. but i'm having difficulty understanding how to control non-pro tools software with the keyboard via oms, directconnect, or anything else. i just don't understand what i'm doing wrong. i'm trying to run logic and some vst plug-ins through that... i'm new to this whole world of software synths and digital recording, choosing drivers & whatnot. does anyone have some newbie-oriented words of advice for syncing an 001 w/ stuff like metasynth, logic, or absynth? i was hoping that i would just install the i/o and then midi, after setting up oms, would 'just work.' heh heh.
