Masterlinkers: Help! Something's broken on my brand new Masterlink. Or is it?

Hi,
Please help me out! I just opened my Masterlink--got it in the mail today--but something seems to be wrong. If it's normal, please let me know.
Namely, when--just after turning on the machine--I try to toggle between analog and digital in the input source area, it stays lit on analog, and doesn't switch to digital (all the other switches toggle back and forth once the machine is turned on).
Is this broken, or does it not normally switch from analog to digital until something else is done...whatever that may be?

Unless you actually connect a digital signal to the unit, I don't beleive you can toggle to it.

Your moniker ("recording genius") is quite appropriate: YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! (Granted, there's more to recording than knowing how to operate a Masterlink, but let's just say I have a hunch)
I should have thought of this, but the manual merely says that if you press the button it will toggle between analog and digital, and makes no mention of having to be plugged into a digital source beforehand. Since all the other buttons worked without further action, I began to wonder if the machine wasn't defective. Glad to know it's not.

I recently got a digital board, so I hooked up to the Digital I/O's...and they are selectable on the input sources right now..

cool, so I'm playing a cd...hit the button like we wanted in the test, and there is a noticible pitch shift upwards when I go to digital inputs...

Now, I'll never be playing a CD when recording digital inputs...but that's still strange.

....you're using an internal sampling rate higher than 44.1 on your digital board, so when you monitor your CD digitally it's being played back at the higher rate, which translates into a pitch up.

I assume you've got your CD player connected digitally........

Who knows? I've got this used D8B I've got, and the bastard has more bugs and gotchas then Windows did. Nothing is working 100% right...for this I saved $2500?

Ah well...you might be right...I just got the sync clock with the HDR24 worked out..I'll muck around some more later when I download a manual.

To avoid this, set the D8B to be clock slave to the Masterlink, so your 44.1 CDs will play correctly.
