Question Tape Considerations

With any luck, in a week or 2 I'll be the proud owner of my own ADAT machine.

I've been looking around at tape sources, but just thought I'd ask here, also. What considerations need to be made in length of tape, quality, brand, etc? I know a little about cassette tape, but nothing about SVHS tape.

Thanks for your support.

DDev.....

Re length: I would stick with T120 as a T160 is a thinner tape.

Quantegys are good though they have had some intermittent issues. BASFs are very good and come preformatted. Maxell "BQ" or "XRS Black" are also very good.

The Maxell XRS black tapes can be bought at Target ina two pak for around $12.00. A bad BASF tape ruined the transport in my first ADAT. I returned it, and have used only the Maxells for the last two years. I have never had a problem with them. Keep em up somwhere, dark and dry.

I'm not saying BASF's are crap, although the one that came with my first unit was. Maxells are cheap and right down the road....

Never had a prob with Maxells.Never had a prob with Quantegys.
Never had a problem with BASF's even after approx 60-70 runs!
Though my own personla rule of ADAT ownership is to get the heads cleaned after 125 hours (most say @200+). I have a friend
here in NYC who does authorized Alesis work and cleans my heads (hmmmm, that didn't sound rite!! ) for only $10.00.
Good Luck!!!!

I'll bet you can even change the idler wheel too (which is part of the regular maintenance!)
