Max DB for a large diaphram condenser

OK, I think I may be a little stupid. I was micing a drum kit, and I put my C1 about a foot above the kit over the ride cymbal. It is distorting badly now. Did I fry it with a sound that was too loud or do I have to search for possible electrical problems that fried it?
