This may be a soundcard issue: is it or isn't it full -duplex? Full-duplex means that the card is physically capable of recording one data stream while playing another. Older soundcards did not have this capability. Most newer ones do, but it's selectable -- full-duplex operation can usually be disabled.

From the Cakewalk Pro AUdio help system:

"To enable full-duplex operation on a sound card that supports it, choose Options-Audio, click the Advanced tab, and select Simultaneous Record/Playback."

I'm assuming Guitar Studio has the same settings...

If the soundcard doesn't support it, you're out of luck unless you replace it with a better soundcard.

thanx!!!

Yes, the little Audio / Options thing worked now I record and listen and everything ROX!!!
Now, what is the best way to get a drum beat going. I have been inserting wav files that I generate with Hammerhead and splicing when needed.
What do you do?

Drumbeats? I have a variety of ways of getting drum parts into my stuff.

Loops, using ACID or SONAR
MIDI drums from one or more of the following sources:
Drag 'n Drop Drummer (came with Cakewalk Pro Audio/SONAR)
Cakewalk's Session Drummer MIDI plug-in
Band In A Box
If I'm working on a cover of a song, I'll try to find a MIDI file of it on the web.
Sometimes I'll even play in some beats using the keyboard.

drums

How do I intergrate midi drums into Guitar Studio v1.02?

Like I said, I can insert drum tracks into my mix (*.*wav files).

I'd also like to know how to get other effects in my mix too.

Thanx for all the help so far!!

Shane

badshane,

Sorry, I really don't know very much about Guitar Studio 1. I believe that Guitar Studio 2 is a slightly stripped-down edition of Pro Audio 9. That version has the afore-mentioned Session Drummer and supports DirectX plug-in effects, but I don't know about version 1.

Do you have any external MIDI sound modules? Or just the soundcard's MIDI synth (assuming it has one)?

The results you get from MIDI drums will depend heavily on how good the drum sounds you trigger are.

As for getting "other effects" into your mix, I assume that you mean reverb, compression, delay, etc. Like I said, I don't know if Guitar Studio 1 supports this capability. If it does, it should be clearly explained in the manual and/or the online help.

I want to know where to put the DirectX plugins so that they can be used. Guess I better go back to the online manual....ugh!
