Unhappy Refurbished QS7.1 DOA?

Hi,
I just bought a Alesis QS7.1 keyboard that was used as a demo in the Alesis booth at a trade show.

On power up, the LCD backlight comes on, but nothing is displayed. And, no audio is produced through the headphones.

Now, I am new to MIDI keyboards, so bear with me.
Do all the connections have to be made (MIDI In/Out, Main out, etc.) for this unit to function?
I thought I could listen to this with just my headphones attached.

I have a Midiman Midisport 2x2 USB-MIDI converter hooked up to my Mac, but haven't got the cables, yet.

So, should I have the MIDI cables connected for functionality, or is there really a problem?

BTW, being a electronics technician, I noticed the power cord plugs into a socket labeled "230V AC 50-60 Hz." But, this is a standard 120V cord and is supposed to be a USA model for 120V AC. Does this just mean that the transformer can accept 230V down to 120V? Just a wondering.

regards,
MAJ

The unit should work with just the headphones. There are certain parameters in the global parameter section that if they are not set right you will have no sound but you should have a readout in the LED no matter what. I think there is a way to reinitialize these units but I have never found it necessary. If you have the manual and the unit can be initialized I would give that a shot. I own a QS8.

Thanks, DW for your reply...

Yep, the LCD does not display ANYTHING. The backlight, however, does come on. It's the only indicator of power.

I did try to re-initialize the unit, per instructions from manual. Hold down "0" and "3" on keypad while powering up. No response.

I bought this unit from Music123 for $669.00 on the eBay auction site, and I was the only bidder.
Nice deal if it would only work!
Maybe there was a reason why it was cheap.

The unit is under warranty, so I will go from there.

Thanks, again for your reply.

regards,
MAJ
