Don't laugh at this. Aww, I know you're gonna laugh anyway. But, I own a Yamaha PSR-6300. Okay, you can quit laughing now. Anyway, I really only use it for some of the different weird little sounds it has - like the bells- and I actually like some of the organs for certain songs. It's not the first keyboard I ever owned but it's like the first Cadillac I ever had. Well, I've never had a Cadillac; I drive a Toyota. But, I'm just wondering is it the polyphony or lack of polyphony that makes it sound so sucky? I don't really understand the full concept of polyphony. I mean if you chord with your left hand using only three keys you just can't do anything with your right hand that sounds decent. You know what I mean. Anyway, I bought it second hand and it was years ago and I don't even have a manual. It is not my primary keyboard, but I just have a sentimental thing about it. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can doctor it up? And please don't be mean. Just kidding, but don't tell me to throw it away. k? (smile)

..at least not anymore!!
Getting back to the Poly thing. a few possibilities.
1. Like you said, it's an older used unit, there could be an internal screw-up.
2. You mentioned chording with one hand and what you played with the other sounded crappy. What is the Poly on that unit. It could be that you're working within a pre-designed sound that is made up of two or more voices. By the time you get into your right hand work, you may have exceeded the Poly rating, ie. 16, 32 etc.

I have no idea what the polyphony is on that keyboard. But, I think you're right that it is a pre-designed unit. It was, i think, one of Yamaha's much earlier workstations. You should see the insides of the thing. It has a trillion circuit boards layered all through it! Thanks for your help old guy

you could try to do a factory reset
PSR6300 Press [C6] key + Power on

I think old guy is right though ... sounds like the chords you're using with the left hand is eating all the polyphony ... maybe try a less complicated patch and see if that helps?

I like the PSR series (i have a 500M) ... an easy to use keyboard that gets ideas down really well! Plus, there's some sounds that aren't too bad!

Yo' T of Langley, I own 1 of those Yamaha PSR thingy's too!
I was mainly attracted to its brass and organ samples suitable for the music I jam on! Oh, and if you use the "Electric Guitar" patch, and hook it up to a guitar efx box,like a Korg,DOD,Zoom etc,you can get some wild-@ss efx out the keyboard!

So no, I'm not laffin'!!!

Thank you Mr. Q for the great tip. I don't have a guitar effex box, but I do have an Alesis effex box. Haven't thought about running my keyboard through it for guitar effex. I think i will try that and see how it works out.
