moog mg-1 ?

Ive been looking for an anolog synth to complement my setup. And I once played one of these a long time ago and dug the sounds I was getting out of it.

The problem is that analog synths have almost disapeared from the face of the earth. None of the pawn shops seem to have any,and the new ones are way too expensive.

Ive looked on ebay and the damn things are selling for more than new ones sometimes.

Anyone have any success finding this board?

I don't remember ever hearing of an mg-1. What is it? Do you remember anything more about it? Was it a modular?

I know what you mean about old analog becoming harder to find and really expensive when you do find them. And the stuff you can get new like Studio Electronics SE-1 and Alesis Andromeda aren't cheap.

actually Its the most popular analog of all time. A moog sold by the radio shack chain durring 81-84.

Oops. I had to edit this post. I was originally thinking that the mg-1 must have been what Moog was marketing as the Rogue. But it wasn't. It was different.

Actually I have one... they are very cool, you can definitely get some interesting sounds out of it. Its actually listed as being manufactured by Realistic, though in tiny font on the synth it says by Moog. They are cool though, try ebay... I see them there all the time.

I bet you thought that the stereo gear was alot like pioneer but was made by realistic.
The archer stuff is really the only stuff they actually make.

what stereo gear? I've really no idea what you're getting at? At any rate, if you want a really cool analog try a Korg MS10. I've got one and you can get some great sounds out of them, not to mention they are semi modular.

I would go for a korg but Im only going to throw about 100.00 at this piece of gear. besides IVE ALLREADY GOT A KORG DIGITAL SYNTH. sorry about the yelling the caps lock was on.

You will not find a good analog synth for $100 unless you happen upon a person owning one and have no clue to what it is. Sorry. Even the Poly-800 (which honestly sucks) seem to be over $100.

The most bang for the buck seems to be a Clavia Micro Modular, it has no keyboard, which makes it cheaper, and you need a PC or a Mac to program it. But it can do anything, really.

The poly 800 is digital and i had to turn mine away from the screen for seeing the last post would have done psycological dammage to mine. It allready had to deal with being sold to me for 50.00.

For that matter my dw6000 was only 100.00 as well, And my fatar sl990 hammer action midi controller was only 75.00 and my yamaha midi expander was 50.00. Now I want an analog so I can get that vintage sound. this moog is supposed to come dirt cheap and be a good board.

Please elaborate on this because strangely it seems digital from its interface, midi and other traits like a display and such.

Its the poly name that may be confuseing but no phonic at the end, but I always thought that ment It would play more than one key at a time.

When you say that a synthesizer is analog, what is ment is that the sound creation is made by analog circuits. Which is the case with the Poly-800. And yes, it can play 8 notes at one time, that is correct, so it is polyphonic as the name suggests.

A nice cheap analog is the Arp Pro Soloist. But it's a preset synth, you cannot edit anything. And no pitch bend...

It does have aftertouch however, which can assign to a few parameters. Also has portamento. Fun to play live...

Some synths straddle the analog/digital fence. I have a Korg EX-8000 (rack version of the DW-8000). I believe the oscillators are digital and the filters and everything else are analog. Same with my DSS-1. I don't know about the Poly-800, though.

NoNoNo!! That's not a theremin!! That's some kindof effects controller... The theremin has it's own distinctive sound... VERY distinctive. If you listen to recordings of tube-theremins (look for 'em on amazon or whatever, there are CD-samples somewhere on the net...), it almost sounds as a human voice. Incredible...

Can you use that Alesis-thingy to generate sound? Or maybe as a midi controller to control the pitch of your synth? That would come closer to a theremin...

You can listen to just about any old sci-fi movie from the 50s and 60s and hear what a theremin sounds like.

Moog / Bigbriar (www.bigbriar.com) makes a great theremin. and.... *drools* I think their performance synth just came out! Paia (www.paia.com) also makes a good theremin called the Theremax... well actually its a kit so, in truth, YOU actually make it.

I have built the paia theremin. Even twice. It's ok, but it really doesn't sound like the ones with tubes, that you can listen to here. (Just try some of the other discs too, it won't play over here at work.)

I also played with the Big Briar theremin at a local shop. Might be a little more stable, I dunno, soundwise I liked the Paia better I think. But they really don't compare to the vocal-like sounds that they have on those cd's...

true the air fx isnt a traditional theremin in the sense you are moving your hand in a field other than one generated by rf. but the control is the same. It was a fun thing to use to get more sounds.

I think they used a theremin on "Dazed and Confused" and "Good vibrations".

The Air FX isn't a tradiational theremin in any sense. It's an effects box, which you control by positioning your hand around the fx units "eye".

The theremin is a synthesizer that you control by positioning your hands closer or further away from two antennaes.

Any similarities is just the similarities in input. Thats it. It's like saying that "my computer is not a traditional piano" just because it has a keyboard...
