Question Hd24

Hello all...
I have a question. I am in need of a new hard disk recorder, as I have outgrown my fostex d-90 8 track. I am looking at the Alesis HD24 24 track recorder. The features are right on line for what I am looking for, and I like the fact that it is completely ADAT compliant. What I'd like to know is, has anyone used one for day-to-day recording?

What have your experiences been with it?
Sound quality?
Ease of use?
Flexibility?

I'd like to get the real world view on this, and not rely on hype (duh).

thanks!

BUY ONE!!!!!

They are shipping to the general public at the end of July!!

I was lucky enough to test one and zero problems!! I didn't use any onboard editing as I flew all my tracks to puter for editing but recording was pristine and simple!!

Be patient and wait for it!!

nuss,

okay, i will! actually, I won't be able to get on till sometime in august anyway, so it works out rather well I suppose.

I am looking to use it to record more acoustic stuff, so detail and percision is of upmost importance.

thanks for your response.

oh, any particular caveats I should be aware of when recording?

thanks!

Unhappy TAKE A MINUTE TO THINK ABOUT IT..

ALESIS IS DOWN TO THE BARE BONE. LITERALLY 95% OF THE COMPANY WAS LAID OFF WITHIN THE PAST TWO MONTHS. NUMARK(NEW OWNERS OF ALESIS) IS NEITHER CONCERNED OR INTERESTED IN MANUFACTURING OR QUALITY OF THEIR OWN PRODUCTS. ALESIS DOESN'T HAVE A PROPER SUPPORT GROUP(INTERNAL OR SERVICE CENTERS) TO ASSIST WITH PROBLEMS THAT YOU MAY ENCOUNTER.

THE UNIT ITSELF LOOKS VERY APPEALING, BUT WHAT DOES THE COMPANY HAVE TO OFFER. ALTHOUGH IT MAY TAKE A WHILE TO SAVE YOUR BROWN PENNIES, I THINK YOUR BETTER OFF BY GOING WITH A STABLE COMPANY.

chpt 11

yes, I am fully aware of alesis' current chpt 11 filing... that is why i am still considering the mackie and the tascam products... but, i do believe, because of alesis' large install base with the adat that the hr24 will be fully supported by 3rd parties to suppliment alesis support.

The HD24 is a hard drive and a couple of circuit boards. Simple and easy to manufacture. The software is solid and finished. It is not a complicated ADAT with rotary heads, alignment and tension settings, etc. HD24 should be reliable. But the proof will be when it ships.

As I am no longer with them, I cannot say with certainty, but end of this month was the target...perhaps set back a couple of weeks by the reorganization there....
