alesis m1... what happened to bass frequencies?

hi everybody,
i took a pair of alesis m1 + ra100 and tried them in my little studio and .....
no bass! i mean, i know they're studied to sound like most home hi-fi, but not like my 100$ boombox!
in the beginning i thought it was a vs 880(my digital recorder) problem but then i listened to cd's with many basses (ie Radiohead - Kid A, Massive Attack etc)and i wasn't able to hear what happened in bass frequencies.
at this point i see 2 possibilities: 1) i will never hear basses coming from m1
2) the problem is in the room and/or the monitor placement. i put the monitor in my control/recording room 2 feets from the wall behind and 6 feet from the walls besides.
my room is 20 x 18 feets.

anyone has ideas?

The M1's aren't too bad monitors and you should be getting plebty of bass out of them. I can only think that you might have them out of phase. That will take out a lot of the bass in the sound. To rectify the situation (make sure the monitors are off when you do this go to the back of one of the monitors and swap the two speaker wires going into it.....Hopefully this will fix your problem!

I have also found that any setting less than about "2 o'clock" on the RA-100 gives you less bass...try setting the RA-100 levels at about "3 o'clock", but turn down your mixer level first!!

ok , i swapped the two wires and it seems to work better ( with the RA - 100 at 3 o' clock) but the basses image is still confused, may be i'm asking too much from my poor control room..........

I used the m1's awhile back but they had lots of bass, I was surprised. But I was using acid loops (a computer program not lsd cereal).
