Drawmer MX60

Anybody have one? Any opinions? Drawmer says it has the same design as the 1960...(so why is it 1/6 the price..heh). How tubey is the 3 band tube feature?

Thanks

Gus

I have one that I got on a gear trade, but I have not used it much to give you any useful information. I need to play with it more to get a better feel for what it can do.

Thanks, Fishmed.

I find it odd that so few have this pre. It got great reviews and seems chock full of features. What. is. up? Did it just fall through the cracks or is the sound simply not up to par with the other pres in this range?

.......... Anyone?

I have one and I think it's outstanding. Popularity, or lack thereof, of this unit is probably due to distribution and marketing. I remember having a hard time finding it, and the national distributor being less than completely helpful. I finally found it at 8th street and got a great deal. Something like $470.

The tube sound emulation is excellent for something that has no tubes and when I set this thing right, I can turn the inputs on my VS-880vxp all the down, which is desirable.

I'm not an expert on pres, but I wouldn't change my decision now having had it awhile - it's just what I want for my mostly-acoustic music recording. I run my TLM-103 through it to record my acoustic guitar and vocals, and for me, that's all I need for an input.

Thats cool. Every review said the tube simulation was really good. I like the idea of multi band tube simulation as opposed to the tube compression on the envoice. I think Im gonna buy it. Sweetwaters having a $75 off any front end sale. Thanks for the info.

Man,

I never got around to buying it. Nobody I know has it, no studio, no project studio, etc. so I never had a chance to play with it and see what its all about. It is noteworthy though that George Schilling noticed a smallness in his test vocal in contrast to the neve pre he is used to. Although the rest of the review was positive, that made me hesitate.

It doesn't seem very fair to compare a 470 dollar preamp to a NEVE, though...

It actually sells for around $630 but you are right. Its not necessarily fair to compare the mx60 to neve but there are pres in the range like grace 101 and such which nobody would consider "small" sounding. Or perhaps not noticably so. (Though the MX60 has dozens of features and the 101 is just a single channel pre.) I may just order an mx60 from sweetwater and try it out for a couple of weeks and then send it back if its not happening. Of course I dont have a neve pre for comparison at this point.
