Yamaha DJXII help!!!!!

How do you use MIDI channels in conjunction with a external source?
There are 16 channels on each piece of equipment, but I am only able to record one instrument or channel into a user pattern.
I am using the DJXII as the master, and it is controlling the drum machine.
The drum machine is an Zoom RT123.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

from what I remember the djx series only has one usable midi chanel....well 2

midi 10 for drums and 1-16 can only use one patch from the djx
