Question Korg i5M - 'extra' tracks won't record

Hi
I'm new here, and I've just bought a second hand i5M, which I intend to use for some solo work, and to scratch out some original tunes at home for my band.
I also purchased an "Evolution MK125" MIDI keyboard. So far this seems to work as I just plugged a standard MIDI cable from that straight into the Korg - I can assign sounds etc. and its pretty clear that the keyboard talks to the two "keyboard tracks" in backing sequence mode.

I am trying to do some 'recording' on this unit.

I can record on the keyboard tracks no problem, its when I want to further overdubs.

I go into extra track 1. But its not clear how to assign the keyboard to that track. Do I need to do something from my keyboard end??

I dont know much (anything) about MIDI. Should I change the channel number for the extra tracks? Extra track 01 is currently set at channel 02. I think the Arrange track is set at channel 01.

When I record, the sounds come thru as I play, but when I go back to play the recorded sequence there is no sound, and it seems no data.

I can get around it by copying the keyboard track over to extra track 1 and so on, but the trouble with that is that when you keep recording over keyboard track 1, you also lose whatever you did with the drums and the rest of the arrangement because it seems these are linked.

The manual is pretty clear that you can record and do overdubs on these extra tracks 1 - 8. It kind of stops at that though.

Sorry for the long winded post. I wonder how many i5M's Korg have sold, seems hard to find info about them (even from Korg).

Any assistance would be very cool.

thanks
