Sequence, Groove, or Drum?

Hi all,

I'm a one-man band having lots of fun with my new Tascam, my Ovation, my Hohner, and my voice....but somewhere down the road, I'm just gonna have to get some other sounds. At the very minimum I'd like to add drums and bass.

How do sequencers, groove boxes, and drum machines differ? Will a groove box let me program my own bass and drum rhythms or do I need a sequencer for that?

But, I'm the first person to respond to your post.

I had recently been doing a lot of study in regards to drum machines in the $300 and under range. I ended up buying a Zoom 323.

I LOVE this thing. Not just cause it sounds great (I wan't planning on using the sounds anyway), but because of all the features (Midi In and Out, four track sequencing, built in bass tracks and more) and the ease of use. Let me tell you, I have been drum machine-phobic since I saw Bill Murry give one a solo on SNL


Well, this thing is so much different than all those 80's peices of crap that I used to snub. If DM's were like this from day one, I would have had an almost completely different opinion of them. Of course, I still think that a REAL drummer is always the way to go, and I'm sure that there are better units on the market, but I just love this thing so much that I am seizing this opportunity to crow a little about it.
