Anyone ever hear of LAX before?

I was in Guitar Center and the guy was telling me what a huge deal this $99 LAX CL2000 compressor was. I said "uhhh.... who?" I looked on the Internet and can find no site, no links, no info on them. Anyone ever hear of them? Are they any good?

I have heard of the RNC, always good things too. I was just curious if anyone had heard of LAX... there aren't too many hardware companies out there that I have not at least heard their name somewhere.

Yeah, LAX has a site with their current stuff, but this item isn't on it.

LAX, is this another name for LA Audio, cus if it is, Ive got some LA Audio. not all that impressed with it, mainly cus of the price i paid, but for that price, buy it. you may find it useful.

Ultimately, what is the final difference in using a hardware compressor like this or the software compressors in your recording program? Is it simply a matter of being able to monitor the effect in real time at the front end while you're recording?

well,

there's a few things. you can either have a nice focusrite compressor and have the benefit of having a quality compressor. or you can have a computer do it, but it wont have the quality of it. i prefer to be able to see whats going on with a compressor so i prefer hardware ones. i know you can keep the compressor window open in a sequencer, but it's not always convenient.

it's what you prefer really. i couldn't handle not seeing compressors working. and i dont trust computer gates much.

advantage of software is that you can run a few of the same compressor, but with hardware, obviosuly this isn't possible.
