Amp or Yorkville Monitors

Questions regarding my next equipment purchase. I have a pod and love it. The problem is I never bought an amp. I play the pod through my stereo system and as expected it doesn’t sound as good as when I monitor through my headphones. I want to continue to use the pod to find sounds that I want to record. My question is this:

Should my next piece of gear be an amp or a pair of Yorkies (YSM1Ps. ? )

This purchase would be my first pair of monitors, so hopefully my recordings will improve as a result.

OK question 2:

Can play my pod through these monitors getting a decent sound (comparable to the small line6 spyder amp) and not risking damaging them? - note: not really planning to crank the volume that high.

Of course I want to noodle on my guitar to find tones I like and such. A line6 spyder would be great but like I said I’ve got $500 to spend and for now it's either or. Also it makes sense to me that you need to experiment a lot with the POD to really find the sounds that you want. How can you do this without wearing headphones?

What are the pros of getting an amp over the Yorks as far as sound quality. (For noodling not for recording) I won't be playing any live gigs for litte while yet.

Yo VirtualSam+:]

You can easily hook the Yorkville speakers to your stereo system.

I run my whole rig through a Yamaha integrated amplifier.

I had a real pro bass player over a few days ago and he couldn't believe how clear the non-amped Yorkville speakers were. Good bass, good hi tones and mids too.

I've read in this column that the Yorkville powered monitors are going to sell for 208 pezzutos each; the non-powered monitors sell for 108 pezzutos each and less if you live closer to Canada where they are made.

Someone was very right when they said Yorkville doesn't spend a great deal advertising; with good products out there, that's the best advertising they can get. But, I also saw a Yorkville ad in the last issue of EM.

I like the Yorkville YSM-1's so well I ordered one of their mics for my studio -- it is a good mic for the price. I bought the lower priced mic of the two Yorkville sells.

So, if your stereo has speaker ins, you can easily listen to the speakers or shut them off and listen to your cans.

Keep playing,
Green Hornet
