reaper any good?
been using cubase sx 3 for a few years and am planning to buy a firewire interface (usually come with cubase le) presonus firpod or alesis io 26
this program seems quite user friendly at first glance, and simple enough for what i need to record a small acoustic band. I reckon i only use 30-40 per cent of cubases fuctions so i may make the cross over. what kind of plugins does it have? speaking of plugins which would you all recommend for acoustic and vocals? i used to have glaceverb but formatted my pc, not sure if this was any good. how many tracks can you record simultaneously in reaper? thanks |

REAPER has TONS of included plugins!
The included "ReaPlugins" are: * ReaComp * ReaControlMIDI * ReaDelay * ReaEQ * ReaFIR (FFT EQ+Dynamics Processor) * ReaGate * ReaInsert * ReaNINJAM * ReaPitch * ReaStream * ReaTune * ReaVerb * ReaVerbate * ReaVocode * ReaVoice * ReaXcomp * ReaSamplOmatic5000 * ReaSynDr * ReaSynth A demo of Schwa's "Spectro" is also included, as well as countless JS plugins. (JS is a plugin scripting language inside of REAPER that allows you to code your own plugins on-the-fly) As far as acoustic + vocals, the normal EQ+ compressor + reverb chain will work. If you have some reverb impulses you can load them into ReaVerb, otherwise you can get some nice sounds from ReaVerbate. Quote:
Heh, that might be a lot of info to take in, but I hope it helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to post either here or the official REAPER forums. Have a great day! |

I like it better than any recording software I have ever used. It's funny how people think because it's so cheap that it's somehow crippled. It's not. It kicks ass.

Sequencer choice is subjective and personal.
(I moved from Cubase to Reaper, but its all in what works for YOU.) DOWNLOAD IT AND TRY IT YOURSELF. It's not locked like *cough*Steinberg*cough* products |

Holy shit, I agree with Gerg!
![]() It really is a great program. I converted from Sonar 6.0 after I downloaded the Reaper demo - it's much more efficient, much faster, more stable, and stupidly flexible. The workflow just seems more natural to me, and I really don't see the point of paying for anything else, since Reaper is just as good as any other program I've used (better, in some ways), and a heck of a lot cheaper.

^^^ What everybody up there says . . . even to the extent of almost agreeing with Greg's description of non-Reaper users!

I used to use ProTools. Switched to reaper, never looked back. After a few months using it, I like it much much better.

Reaper is exceptionally well priced, the interface is much better than Cubase IMO and has great support.
I still use Cubase for midi (when I have to) but that is only from old habits. As suggested above - download it & try it - I think you will be very surprised at its functionality and responsiveness.

I never liked Reaper... I use Logic Studio 9 on my Mac system and also Cubase 4 AI, on my Windows laptop I was using Sonar and Cubase 4 too - in the past few months I RETRIED Reaper and actually started to like it more and more - also the THEMES abilities I Love. I started downloading Themes and finally set it up with a Black Silk look - and now I'm using it a lot more - it actually has everything most any other DAW has and a whole lot cheaper! I probably am going to buy it even though I can still use it without spending a dime but I always feel that QUALITY SOFTWARE deserves to be rewarded. I ran a "borrowed" copy of Logic Studio 9 for a few days and then bought it as it was a "10" in my book. Reaper is really a nice DAW too.

Yes it is. It's funny that the fucking theme is the deciding factor for you. I suppose you think red cars are faster too?
