Hafler M5 monitors

Does anyone have any experience with these? I've got some upgrades to do in my studio, and that is one area. I also have a Behringer mixer and after reading all the stuff about them.....I'm ashamed to say I own one. So it's off to Mackie land I go I suppose.

Any other "make sure you stay away from", or "these are the absolute best" would be appreciated as well. Both mixers and monitors.

I looked at them for a while, (the price is definitely nice) but I read more than a few places that said they were too small to get an accurate bass response, without the use of a sub. I listened to them at guitar center, and it pretty much went the same way.

That's funny about the behringer. I did the same thing...couldn't find any info (good or bad) until I bought it, then I found a wealth of info about how terrible it was was. I was able to return them, so I got out lucky.

Well I bought the Behringer about 2 years ago (mail order, company was bought) so returning is obviously out of the question. But..............maybe I can find someone who hasn't been able to find anything out about them too!!! :-)

I wouldn't do that. I can use it as a PA mixer for my christian music. With 2 effects sends, I can do monitors and effects so it would work pretty well.

Where have you guys found the best prices on Mackie stuff?

For the most part, I believe most of the mackie stuff has a standard pricing...I always shop around online and buy most of my stuff that way and there's certain products that always have the same price EVERYWHERE. If you don't mind used, check out ebay. You can find some good deals there. If you're into shopping online, checkout www.gearprice.com You enter the gear you want and it searches most of the online retailers and arranges them by price. 8th street, zzounds and musicians friend have free shipping (if over $200) and unless you're in their state it's tax-free.

Honestly though, I would stay with the behringer if it's for live use. Mine wasn't TERRIBLE, but im using it for recording and I have a nice tube mic and it wasn't sounding that great. If you've been using it for 2 years, it can't be too bad.

The M5s are one of the best speakers in that price range. They are balanced, clear and NOT hyped in the low end like every other speaker in that range. There is not a lot of bass response but its worth getting these speakers with a decent sub instead of the reveals and no sub. You dont get clear midrange monitoring
from other speakers that have more low end like the reveals or alesis or krk stuff. Theres a tradeoff. The M5s are a good buy and a kick ass value at this price. Check out eventware too.

As far as the monitors go, I only listened to them at the store, so I can't tell you whether the mixes will come out with too much low end, but IMO they seemed like they lacked a bit of low end.

m5's are $100. With event 20/20's at $50 more, I'd wait and save the money if you have to.
