DeoxIT and FaderLube

Hello everyone!

I've seen sweetbeats mention Caig's DeoxIT several times and I'd like to know what people think about this product.

Also, I found another product by the same company, called "FaderLube", and it's recommended for cleaning faders (duh?) and pots. Does anyone have experience with this product?

I've got some major cleaning to do. I'm attempting to restore a TASCAM 34b that was stored in a garage near the beach in San Francisco, and it's got some massive corrosion in and on it. I'm hoping for the best...

Well, I use 'em and like 'em, for what they are intended. I'm sure you can at least get the corrosion out from contacts, boards, switches etc.... They're good products.

I wouldn't spray DeOxit on the entire board, it leaves a petroleum residue behind. It's really just for contacts. Try a general electronics cleaner (I use Blue Shower, it works OK) instead.

Faderlube is extra lubey, for pots and faders. Don't use that everywhere or it will be all greasy . . .

FaderLube for conductive plastic and carbon potentiometers (linear and rotary) and D5 or Gold for metal-to-metal contacts (switches, connections, etc.)

thats funny i JUST ordered deoxit and faderlube earlier today!

whats the difference between deoxit D5 and DN5? I got DN5 i just realized.

I've never heard of or tried Faderlube.

I've been using Caig Deoxit since it was called Cramolin in the 70's. As a matter of fact I still called it Cramolin and have to stop and think of the other name each time I say it.

I use the red can called D5.

It's a unique formula, there's nothing else like it in the world. It cleans the contacts and leaves them in the ultimate condition for conductivity. In some cases you can hear a clearer high end after using it.

It, and a 1/4" burnisher are must-haves in my dumb opinion (IMDO).

Yes, Deoxit is only for contacts.

For dissolving rust an amazing product is Whink Rust Stain Remover.
