problems converting 8-track cassette to digital...

So, I recently bought a Tascam 488 (a nice upgrade from my previous mf-p01) and just finished recording a song that I want to convert to digital. Everything on the 8-track is set to mixdown, but when I try to record it onto my computer no signal is detected. I'm using a white/red rca to 1/8" and tried using both garageband and audacity and I'm still getting nothing. I know that there's nothing wrong with the cord of mixer because I tried plugging it into an amp and it worked, but for some reason my computer still isn't picking it up. Oh, and I tried plugging microphones into the computer and it works. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Your "problem" must be somewhere in your computer/sound card/software settings/configuration.
You can try to post your question at this forum: http://homerecording.com/bbs/forumdisplay.php?f=14, guys there must love chating about those things , be sure to provide the specific info: what is the computer system, what sound card, what software etc...
If you provide all that info, maybe somebody jump on it here to try to help you out.
/best wishes

Sounds like the Mute is on, on the Line input of your computer's mixer.

Do you know how to get to the Properties section of your sound card, through the Control Panel of your computer? If you do, go and check the levels and mutes settings of the card and once un-muted, go to your recording program on the computer and in the set up/properties of that, set it to record from the line input from your computer.

If it still doesn't work after that, take your question to any of the other forums here, more dedicated to computer recording.

Cheers!

When i first used Audacity I had to configure the line, stereo, mono properties. After that it worked. Make sure your using the right output jacks on your mixer.
