Arrow Tascam MF-P01 Demo #1: Bowie jam!

Tascam MF-P01 Demo #1: Bowie jam.

Recorded sometime appx. in Jan/Feb 09 & mixed on 07/25/09. IIRC using Tascam ME-20 condenser mic, acoustic guitar & bass D/I. Laugh if you want. This is how jam sessions go at my house.

Just a jam.

Now here tell that we Tascam MF-P01 owner / users are in exhalted company. Here is a scan of a photo I have in a book of P. J. Harvey and Marianne Faithfull recording on something that looks awfully familiar just a few short years back...

BTW, love the tel ringing toward the end... See, call me crazy but I could listen to this sort of thing all day vs many a commercial release.

Arrow Yeah, man.

It has lots of tape vibe, for sure.

As for the MF-P01 being the most stripped and lofi analog Tascam around, it sounds surprisingly good, FWIW. And it's a sleek little package! (As always, YMMV).

The phone ringing is a real buzzkill, but it's all part of classic entertainment at it's best!

Dave, no insult intended, 'cause you know I'm your biggest fan but I honestly prefer the "tone" of the MF-P01 over the DP02, from another thread. Don't get me wrong, both productions are fantastic but the cassette one is on another level, experience wise, at least for me. And no, I don't have a fever.

Arrow Offense? Come on!

The MF-P01 definitely has it's own vibe. This one showcases the drums as particularly slamming, & I got a bit of tape saturation on the bass.

There's an openness or airiness in the vibe here, tho' it's more production technique than the format, but the MF-P01 and DP-02cf definitely have a different sound.

There's a blunt, cruel honesty in the MF-P01's sound, while the DP-02 has more of a fine sheen.

Dave's stuff is so cool. Yeah, there's a few clams here and there, but the tracks always sound like they were recorded with fun in the air. Keep jamming and keep posting Dave...

The MF-P01 is great for what it is. The single input and ease of use is great for songwriting sketches but if you take a little care some cool demos can be had, Dave just showed us. My cousin has one and a couple of years ago we recorded some stuff with a Rode NT1A and a ART TubeMP. The sound was real close, I mean REALLY close, to the Tascam 424's. I'll see if he still has the tapes and try to post them on SoundClick. etc...

I'd still reach for the 424 when recording an analog 4 track demo; mainly for the versatility with the mixer. But for just laying down something quick and then being able to overdub just as fast...the lil' MF'er is cool! And eBay has them all day long for under $50.
