I'll keep my eyes out for the remote as I'm sure others will as well...oooooo...RC-424...not too common.

On the manual, have you contacted Teac Parts (323) 727-4840? They likely have reprints which will be complete, clear, and cheaper than originals or the risky pdf or reprint on eBay (don't do it). For example, I just bought the reprint of the complete Operations/Service manual for the 388 from Teac...170 pages with foldout schematics for $23.00.

Well worth it.

I have a MSR16S with manual which is similar to the MSR24, the manual is very detailed with circuit diagrams / circuit board artwork, maintenance set up details and operation instructions. There are lots of pages, which is why it would be hard for someone to pdf, and if you can get one from Tascam it is well worth it.

Cheers

Alan.

This is al VERY useful info. Althought I would expect nothing less from you sweetbeats! I'll have to give Teac a call tomorrow to hunt down the manual, maybe they'll know something about the remote too....

Thanks,
-Barrett

Teac has the Manuals for 60 bucks and I'll probably have to end up getting them from there. As for the remote... I can't find it anywhere. A google search doesn't even turn up any info on the remote.

Thanks for all the help so far,
-Barrett

Wow...$60...is that for a reprint? I paid $54 for my Tascam 58 manual from them but it was an original print in the binder...worth every penny IMO.

I didn't think they'd be able to help you on the remote. They are rare and $$$...just be patient though...one will turn up eventually. Just keep watch.

I called back today and they said that it's only 38 bucks! So I nabbed it right away, it should be here tomorrow.

Thanks,

don't mean to jack the thread, but...

I may buy one of these very soon (and will therefore, also be making that call to TEAC)...

It's going for $1000 CAD, which seems around par / slightly below, considering it comes with the remote and 3 reels.
I made sure it was DBX rather than Dolby S as per another thread I saw, regarding the NR inevitably faulting in Dolby units.

Does anyone have further recommendations about potential issues I should look out for with this thing?
I think I've heard that these are 2-head units, which is a bit of a downer for calibration, and head life.

I also considered picking up a 38 I found listed for $400 with 4 reels and the DBX units.
I already have a 38 that need some parts, maybe I should stick with the better tape real estate vs. track options... feel free to expound on this one a little, if you've got an opinion.

You bastard! I can't find the remote anywhere! I've never used an analog multitrack and I got it hooked up and running at full capacity in under 45 minutes. Real straight forward, very smooth. Have fun with yours AND YOUR REMOTE!!!

Yeah, it's crazy money for sure.

The only one I found on ebay went for nine-something US, with no remote/tapes/etc. so I don't really feel like we're getting fleeced...but handing over that much cash for anything is tough.

My friend and I (splitting the cost) went to see it today and it appears to be in excellent shape. Tape path is very clean, and the unit is built like a tank.
It's in a nice rack mount custom wooden box, and the guy also has the 24 ch snake, and the manual, so the deal seems to be getting sweeter all the time.

Hopefully we can find a calibration tape somewhere in town to try it out soon.

The head. Last I saw, replacements were £1500 (plus tax). I don't think you can even get them anymore, and comparatively few were made anyway. The '38 may not be in the same class, but the heads are far easier to get.
