tascam 388 what now?

Hey everyone... anyone...
I just got my hands on a tascam 388 and have some 457 on order. I need to find a manual if anyone knows where to find one.
Home recording is new to me but I am ready to jump in. I'm so new to this that I dont even know what questions to ask! If anyone has any advice on how to run through the machine and check out the functions and so forth that would be great! I dont want to break it because I dont know what the heck I'm doing!!!
mrkahn
oh yeah, I am totally new to the forum too!

mrkahn,

Congrats on aqcuiring one of the coolest pieces of analog kit ever, and welcome to the AO forum!

You can download a coarse scan of the maintenance and operatios manual here:

http://marjorie-plastille.com/

Like I said, its coarse but pretty much all the operations instructions are readable. That will get you started.

Tell us what you'd like to accomplish with your 388 and that will help us direct you on what you need.

Is the 457 tape new or old?

Welcome! The joy of discovering analog recording is what brought me here, too.

Ask any questions that come to mind... and don't be afraid to experiment and try "Weird" stuff while you're at it. You've got a great audience/group of mentors here, so just go for it

You've got a range of people here to help... everyone from conventional "studio"-type folks to weirdo-types who like to make strange noises Ask away, and welcome, again!
