NOS Ampex 641 on eBay 07/13/09
A guy is selling cases of 40 reels of NOS Ampex 641 1/4" tape on 7" reels for $80 + shipping,... here!
  Maybe a nice score for an analog recording hobbiest. I have a perhaps a lifetime's worth of tape already on hand, so I'll pass. Harkening back many posts ago, I believe I read somewhere that 641 would be more "voice grade" tape as compared to 456 or other standard (hifi/music-grade) "mastering" tape. To say the least, (having read the spec sheet), 641 is an older formulation that has slightly lower magnetic properties than newer formulations. For the right person, this could be a handy case of tape to have on hand,... and at a nice price. Aye!
