Nagra cold-war spy reel2reel micro recorder

http://reddit.wired.com/submissions_...=new&offset=75 (scroll down towards bottom, and click for a BIG jpg.)

"Nagra cold-war spy recorder originally designed for undercover surveillance during the Kennedy administration, later used widely in law enforcement. It uses tape the same width as cassette tape but on open reels and packs automatic dynamic level control and audio compression circuitry into its machined aluminum 145x100x28mm case."

Yep, the CIA special. So small that you have to hand crank the tape for rewind. Love the SNST. Nagra machines are amazing. Must get one before I die.

This is the SNST, so STEREO version. The original one was mono, and existed in two versions: the SNN (Normal speed) and SNS (Slow speed). The SNST also used a sparate playback unit called DSP, very cute. I just got a SNST a few months ago, it isn't cheap but worth it if you like that machine. Plus, right now there's a guy on eBay who has a TON of NOS tapes fo quite cheap. There are three types of tape. You can even use audio cassette tape.
